AID MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEM FOR NEPAL

Small Irrigation Programme(SIP), PHASE I was signed in 10 february 2015. Completion date of  of this programme  was 28 February 2019 . Through an amendment in 26 December 2019  the completion date was extended upto June 30,2020. In the first phase, the programme was successful in meeting the basic trget for irrigation development set for the programme in the terms of number of schemes,irrigation coverage and number of benificiaries. The main goal of the second phase is to consolidate the positive results in development of irrigation infrastracture, but further refine scheme design to condition these schemes for dry season irrigationof high value crops, and thus creat enabling conditions for the introduction of commercialzed agriculture. By the implementition of this Phase small farmers, especially from the disadvantaged groups reduce their poverty by increasing their agricultural income.

The main activities of the programme are :

i. Institutional strengthening and capacity development of Local Government.

ii. Improved irrigation infrastructure

iii. Water Users Associations irrigation system management

iv. Agriculture  Market

Expected output of the Project are as follows:

1. 1,300 small scale irrigation systems would be established.

2. 20,000 hectare of the agriculture would be irrigated.

3. 65,000 farmer households would be benefited.

i. Local Governments (LGs) respond effectively to the needs of small farmers for the irrigated agriculture.

ii. Small farmers  especially from the disadvantaged groups(DAGs) increase agriculture productivity.

iii. Market actors offer innovative supports and products to farmer i irrigated schemes.

This programme will cover Local Governments mid hills in Province 1. It will provide year round irrigation to 20,000 hectare in about 1,300 small scale irrigation systems through community driven process benefiting 65,000 farmer households.
