The goal of this project is to contribute to the sustainable recovery of the education sector in Nepal by providing safe and child-friendly school environments for students, teachers and School Management Committees in 31 schools of Duwachaur, Palchowk, Ichok, Talamarang, Mahankal and Helambu VDCs of Sindhupalchok district.


Outputs: 
  • In 31 schools, 198 classrooms will be reconstructed in an earthquake-safe manner.All designs comply with the national building codes of Nepal as well as international standards. They will be submitted to the Department of Education for approval.
  •  In 31 schools, 76 partially destroyed classrooms will be refurbished. The designs for refurbishment will also be submitted to the Department of Education for approval.
  • In 31 schools appropriate latrines, water supply including hand-washing facilities will be provided. The facilities comply with national as well as Swiss Solidarity standards.
  • 5’597 children will improve their hygiene and water usage behavior including the awareness on environmental and health issues related to water, sanitation and hygiene.
  • To ensure proper usage of the school physical infrastructures, operation & maintenance trainings will be provided to the School Management Committees of all the 31 schools.
  • Due to the high risk of natural disasters in the working area, the project will raise awareness on DRR among students, teachers, SMC members as well as RPs and VDC secretaries.
  • Appropriate and effective campaigns will be conducted through local FM radios and street drama to increase school attendance and reduce drop-outs.

Outcome:
  •  5’597 students in 6 VDCs in Sindhupalchok have access to safe and child-friendly schools, including appropriate WASH facilities.
  •  Students, teachers and School Management Committees in 31 schools are able to maintain a safe and child-friendly school environment
